Praise The original Endless Quest books were childhood favorites of mine, their branching narratives allowing me to experience the fun of playing Dungeons & Dragons even when I couldn’t get a party together. When I heard they were coming back, I wondered if they could recapture that magic. Well, Matt Forbeck’s Escape the Underdark made me feel like that kid again. His twisty, clever tale of high adventure in low places captures the thrills of a classic dungeon crawl, especially that omnipresent threat of danger that made the hair stand up on the back of my neck. To use a D&D metaphor, Escape the Underdark is a critical hit.
